Dive Spots
First of all, we found it great that the crew was all Egyptian, including the dive guides. I always find it unattractive when the "best" jobs on a boat go to "foreigners". What we have to criticize regarding the guides, however, is that the diving was not always sensible: According to briefings, it was actually always said that no diving against the current, but de facto we are often floated against the current, which even I found as a medium young, fit woman sometimes really exhausting, two older British guests and a younger American with knee problems, however, had to fight really hard and have then skipped dives in the course, as soon as in the briefing current was even mentioned, which should have been done better or stick to the plan discussed in the briefing.
As for the dive sites we were quite disappointed, a route called Fury Shoals, but then takes place to 2/3 around Marsa Alam, was not what we had imagined. I have done this route a few years ago with another fleet, we were 2/3 at the Fury Shoals. However, it must also be said that further south, due to the increased water temperature (30 degrees at the end of September), the corals are 75% bleached, that is, dead. This has shocked us all totally and makes you suddenly very aware of climate change, really terrible!!! Accordingly, there was of course much less fish than expected and known from earlier. Further north, the water was "only" 29 degrees warm and the corals still a little healthier, and there was more fish, but not as much as usual. By the way, sharks don't come up at Elphinstone in the early morning at this warmth... for us it was in any case the last Egypt vacation, because I'm afraid that the coral bleaching will probably rather progress there and soon you won't get to see anything at all.
But back to the Miss Nouran:
We had the master suite up front, which was of the equipment ok, although a bit worn, although the ship is not so old (facing of the drawer fell off eg constantly), but it is now times the only cabin with double bed - which was mega hard. Unfortunately, we did not know that the deck in front of the cabin is the lounge deck of the crew, so actually permanently at least one, but usually several of the guys sat right in front of our windows and loudly talk, talk on the phone, etc. have. The windows are black from the outside and so you probably can not look inside - at least if inside no light is on - but I as a woman have nevertheless felt very uncomfortable when undressing / changing and especially showering, so we had the curtains actually always closed and of the great view thus nothing (with open curtains, however, one would have looked at the heads of the guys sitting in front of the window, so it was with the view anyway nothing). If we had known that, we would not have booked the expensive cabin!
Super we found the safety and fire drill, after the incident in June this year, this showed us that one has learned from it and safety is taken very seriously; in addition, there were life jackets in each cabin and a working smoke detector and we were encouraged to always check whether the also flashes, ie the battery is full. Exemplary!
Finally a word about the food: The quality was not bad and even I as a (unannounced) vegetarian usually found something, even if it was French fries. I have eaten much better on other boats, but it was overall ok. What was really outstanding were the desserts - there was an own pastry chef and he baked everything imaginable, so there were always fresh cookies, cakes (dry and with various fruits), cupcakes, etc.. The hammer! Just for that the tour was worth it ;)
