We had a beach bungalow (no.106), for us it was good that there was a lot of shade in front of the bungalow. However, you didn't have a direct view of the beach and the sea. The interior is rather dark, the bathroom is huge but old. There are many shelves with glass shelves in the bathroom.
The wardrobe consists of a clothes rail and several open shelves. The bed is also very large.
It is a real barefoot island. You don't need shoes. At best, flip-flops or flip-flops. Ultimately, we did not find the storage space in the room sufficient.
The room was always very well cleaned and we always had extra beach towels. The outdoor swing is great, as is the rest of the furniture on the terrace. Unfortunately the cushions were slow to dry.
The food was always great. Our waiter was very friendly and always provided us with drinks very quickly.
The service in the bars was also always great. Drinks and food always arrived pretty quickly.
HP was completely sufficient for us. The surcharge for HP+ was $48 per person per night. We only came close to that amount on one day. For lunch we ordered a sandwich (4-6$), chicken (16$) or pasta. The sandwich and chicken were always accompanied by a small salad and fries.
In addition to the prices on the menu (which can be downloaded from the hotel website), there is a service charge of 10% and 16% tax.
Massages were also very good. Here we found the price to be very high (80$ for 50 min + service charge and taxes = 101$).

The dive center was well organized, the equipment was very good. The staff was friendly.
We didn't like one dive site (out of 16) because it looked more like a scree desert. But even there we were able to find exciting things.

There was a volleyball court. The ball could be borrowed from reception. Some of the staff were very good at volleyball. So it's not for every beginner...
The staff played regularly, around 5pm, when the weather was good and their time allowed. This was great for us, as we knew the rules of the game and there was less risk of injury.

There was also a tennis court and a soccer pitch. We didn't use these.
There were also various water sports on offer. We only used stand up paddling (25$+service fee+taxes for 1h if I remember correctly).

The resort is very nice and the staff is friendly and helpful. The bungalows are nicely furnished.
A bit of a shame was that they started renovating the bungalow next to me on the last day (Saturday) of my stay. Throughout the day there was construction noise (hammering, etc.). Since it was bad weather there were not too many alternative options.

Room super. Water bungalow No. 190
Location of the room: bad, because always early in the morning at 05.45Uhr !! the boats rang. Sleep in impossible!!!

Impudence that on the day of departure 25 dollars per person were charged for lunch + drinks. Pick up time was actually 4pm, but the plane landed only at 5pm on Angaga... so we were dependent on the fact that we could eat on the island. Statement of the hotel was: we had already eaten lunch on the day of arrival!!! But we only did that because our rooms were not ready for occupancy until 2:30PM!!!
Room boy did a clean job.
Bar crew was not very motivated to serve the guests.
All in all: Island too expensive, for what is offered!!!

Angaga Island Resort 12.2020-01.2021

Beautiful island with dense vegetation and a lot of potential, but unfortunately in a pathetic condition and gastronomically shameful

Angaga in the South Ari Atoll is very well located with its mirror shape.
The transfer is usually by seaplane.
On arrival the island is very attractive from the top of the plane.
attractive. But the disillusionment follows very fast, when one arrives with the boat
arrives at the jetty.
The jetty, which is also the same jetty that leads to one of the two
water bungalow rows, is in a desolate condition.
This first bad impression should unfortunately not remain the last.

Bungalows / Rooms
The bungalows as also the furnishing of these are completely used.
The furniture is very old, everything is crooked, the fridge is dirty, mouldy and stinks. You have the choice of using either the TV or the fridge on one socket, you can't use both at the same time.
Our choice was the TV because I don't think anyone would have chosen the fridge.
Walls, windows and doors are rotten. Bathroom plumbing is worn out, fixtures loose and completely calcified.
We stayed in bungalow 103, which was apparently one of the better ones.
Nevertheless, the guests lived in the bungalows 120 to 130 (these are located in the area of the water bungalows) was very astonishing for us. We could not imagine that guests put up with such conditions and still pay for it.

The island
The island itself is actually very beautiful with white sandy beach and exudes some Maldives charm.
The green areas are still ok. There are obviously also several aviaries with parrots and parakeets which is also very nice.
Nevertheless, it is also here clearly recognizable that in the past one has
more effort in the past and now leaves everything to nature.

But the area between the water bungalows is totally destroyed.
It seems that they tried in vain to stop the erosion with sandbags in this area.
Unfortunately, this area is immediately obvious upon arrival.
The jetties to the water bungalows are completely rotten.
The bungalows themselves especially windows, doors, terraces and windbreaks
are outwardly in a miserable condition.
Service
The staff is very friendly despite the obvious overwork.
We consider the management to be unqualified (just our opinion).
Gastronomy
The selection at breakfast was very limited. One could only dream of freshly squeezed fruit juices.
The evening buffet (without self-service) is repetitive, so that one knows everything after 3 to 4 days.
The quality of the offered products is the lowest quality that was probably to get. The preparation of the dishes were not even on amateur level.
Under open wines one understands, wine from 5 litre Tetra Pak container.
We don't need to go on about this quality.
The selection of dessert was also always the same, just presented in different forms.
Gastronomically and culinary everything here is on the lowest level.
Sport & Entertainment
The dive center was ok, but there was almost no service.
This means that only the basket with the equipment and compressed air tanks were brought on and off the boat. Rinsing the equipment had to be done by yourself. We are not used to that, especially with the prices that are charged here. We are on vacation and don't want to work and are happy to pay for good service.
The dive boat was an old run down dhoni without any comfort and smelly diesel engine. The space on this one was way too small for the daily divers.
According to crew members the actually better dive boat was exchanged for this one
was exchanged for this old dhoni by the island management for cost reasons.
The dive center manager Sebastian is very experienced, fluent in five languages.
The dives are conducted very professionally by him and we enjoyed them. At the beginning Sebastian is a bit reserved with communication, but thaws out more and more when you get to know him better after a few days. Adlin, the Maldivian dive guide is as expected very friendly, as we have come to know it in 26 years of Maldives experience. About Ichelle (read correctly !! without M.) the German dive guide we can report nothing negative but also nothing positive.

Conclusion:
We believe that the operator still wants to get the last out of this resort before a closure, which is also inevitable from our point of view.
The many positive reviews cast considerable doubt on their authenticity.
There can't be that many naive and blind tourists after all.
Hotel facilities:
Not recommendable !!!
Price-performance ratio very bad / unacceptable
Gastronomy / Culinary: shamefully disastrous, not even on the level of a bad canteen.

We didn't find much to complain about in the rooms. Of course there are places that were already pretty worn out, but everything was clean and working. In addition, we have not spent much time in it.
The food was, except for small variations, the same every day. Except on New Year's Eve.
The service was always helpful. If it was busy, you had to wait occasionally, but always friendly.
The island itself is very beautiful, but due to the hotel management would no longer be an option for us. There are even in the same price category far better islands!!!
I can only recommend everyone, in the current situation (corona), to contact the resort in advance to clarify what is possible and what is not.
Despite some restrictions, we had a nice holiday.
