The Sub Aqua team was excellent. Everyone was very nice and helpful.
Our diving instructor, Chris, looked after us so well that we did the Advanced course in addition to the Open Water Diver.
Courses and excursions could be booked very spontaneously and the groups were small.
As it was our first time diving, we had no comparison with the dive sites, but we found them very beautiful.
The house reef (whose corals are no longer 100% intact) offers a wide variety of sharks, moray eels, lionfish and lots and lots of reef fish.

The dive center is very professionally run. Rental equipment is very good and the staff are all very nice and helpful. The dive sites were perfect except for one. The day trip to the whale sharks is particularly worth mentioning. In contrast to many other boats, it was very relaxed and well prepared. Visibility and whale shark encounters with addictive potential.
At the dive center you can also select "Guiding", i.e. whether you want to do guided dives or not. I definitely recommend not ticking "guiding", as the guides know and can show you all the "specialties" on site.

Boats

There are 2 dive boats. One of the boats is slightly smaller. On this boat, the crew consists of 2 people and the toilet is smaller. On the larger boat, the crew consists of 3 people. The crews are friendly and help the divers where they can.
The toilets were clean on both boats and were always checked.
On the boats there was always a small bottle of water per diver and dive. There were also snakes on day trips.

The shallows were changed by the crew during the 2 tank dive. The equipment was brought to the boat and back to the dive center by the crew. You had to wash up yourself. Until the equipment was back at the dive center, you could easily take a shower.

The dive center is very well equipped and the staff are friendly and helpful. We felt we were in good hands.
The dive guides were also friendly and helpful and the briefings were easy to understand.

The dive sites were great and the house reef also had a lot to offer. Only once out of 16 dives did the dive site not quite excite us.

At the beginning there was a check dive on the house reef. As I had a cold at the beginning of our vacation, we couldn't dive straight away. When I was well again, I still had difficulties with pressure equalization. I was able to take all the time in the world during the check dive and everything was completely relaxed. At the end, we did the exercises, set the buoy and dived out in a relaxed manner.

The whale shark excursion was great, even if there is a lot going on. There are lots of boats and lots of people on site and everyone is snorkeling for the best spot. Sometimes you get fins knocked off or pushed. The rules are explained beforehand, but when there are so many people in the water, it's always chaotic.

We have one small point that could perhaps be improved. We had booked half board and that was perfectly adequate.
But you can only have breakfast from 07:30, possibly a few minutes earlier. The dive boat for the 2 tank dive departs at 08:15. If you have to go to the toilet beforehand, you don't have much time for breakfast. It would have been nice to have 15 minutes more time here so that you don't have to rush so much and can perhaps still eat a freshly prepared egg.

Dive sites: there would be certainly more worth seeing
Dive guides: Base owner was very particular.
Despite my PFO was not paid attention to the fact that I came quickly out of the water without equipment. We had to wait x times beaten 15 minutes on the surface until the boat has loaded us.
Our criticism was answered: that's just the way it is. On our demand, whether we would not get 10min longer dive time, they did not go!
The crew has in each case reluctantly pulled up my equipment (because of PFO I must not exert myself after diving), the jacket was pulled up on the inflator hose instead of the bracket of the jacket!!! This is my own equipment and not a rental equipment!!!
Statement of the base leader: this can not be, his crew is very experienced!!!
My buddies can confirm this!!!
The slightly smaller boat (not the Tornado) was ok. However, the benches were narrower, which made putting on the jacket cumbersome when the boat was full.
The stairs are way too short, missing at least 2 steps. Also, the rope on the side of the stairs to hold on to while one at a time gets on the boat was missing.
Definitely never using this base again.

Stellungnahme von Subaqua Angaga
Dear guests, thank you for your feedback. We would like to give a statement to explain the situation from our point of view:

We were aware that one of the divers has a PFO, but by checking at the orientation dive they told us that they are experienced divers and can take care of everything themselves like taking a longer safety stop with their buddys in a group of four. We were confident they were experienced enough to know what they are doing. Unless they used a big amount of weights and as well a 15l tank which made the whole equipment very heavy. The weight of the equipment meant that the Dhoni Crew had problems to get it out of the water back on to the boat after the dive. Unfortunately at this process one of the crew member did accidently touched the hose of their equipment. The Operations Manager talked with the crew to remind them to be more carefully.

Regarding the boat situation, it is true that we now have a smaller boat with a smaller ladder & bench, but since Covid-19 we also have less guests so it is suitable for our current needs. The boat is actually provided by the Hotel and we don’t have much say in what boat we get to use, so it is better we can use this small boat than not offer boat trips at all for the guests! Any complaint about the boat can only be directed at the hotel.
We are sorry that the guests had to stay a bit longer on the surface on one day. But with a group of 10 divers which all have to get back to the boat again, there is automatically a waiting time. As well there were always in sight of the Dhoni captain. Another organization wouldn’t be possible as we would be late to return to the resort.
The other buddy pair (their friends) continued to dive with us and were very happy with the service of the dive center and the dives.

We are sorry that it didn`t worked out for the guests, we would have liked to have handled the situation differently.

The dive center was ok, but there was almost no service.
That means that only the basket with the equipment and compressed air tanks were brought on and off the boat. Rinsing the equipment had to be done by yourself. We are not used to that, especially with the prices that are charged here. We are on vacation and don't want to work and are happy to pay for good service.
The dive boat was an old run down dhoni without any comfort and smelly diesel engine. The space on this one was way too small for the daily divers.
According to crew members the actually better dive boat was exchanged for this one
was exchanged for this old dhoni by the island management for cost reasons.
The dive center manager Sebastian is very experienced, fluent in five languages.
The dives are conducted very professionally by him and we enjoyed them. At the beginning Sebastian is a bit reserved with communication, but thaws out more and more when you get to know him better after a few days. Adlin, the Maldivian dive guide is as expected very friendly, as we have come to know it in 26 years of Maldives experience. About Ichelle (read correctly !! without M.) the German dive guide we can report nothing negative but also nothing positive.

PS: We did not use the equipment of the dive center, because we have our own. But this is obviously good.

The dive center was well equipped and neat / clean.
About the dive guides: Here it was very different! There were 2 men and one woman.
The local guide was great. Very nice and went to the guests. The "leader" of the base was friendly and nice, but it seemed very "memorized". The lady did not go at all in our opinion. Very unfriendly tone and real "no-bull" attitude. Really out of place.
Unfortunately, wishes of the guests in terms of dive sites were absolutely not addressed. There was only one old boat available, so that many dive sites could not be approached at all. Among other things, the statement that the AI guests must be back at noon for lunch.
Accordingly, the same places were approached more often within a week. What a pity!
But it has to be said that the boat is provided by the hotel and the base can't do anything about it.
The house reef is completely broken. Who hopes here for beautiful diving or snorkeling, hopes in vain!
