At Costa Volcan Apartments on Lanzarote, we were originally assigned a ground-floor apartment near the pool, but I immediately swapped it for one on the second floor. That’s because you can’t keep your windows or doors open at night, and there’s no air conditioning or fans. So it gets really hot inside. It’s also a good idea to keep the cockroaches out. Both accommodations have large cockroaches, which are common in warm countries. But it’s something to keep in mind—make sure to store and transport your clothes in sealable bags.

One more note about parking on Lanzarote. When we were there, the annual festival was in full swing, which meant there wasn’t a single parking spot available. People just kept driving around in circles. So we parked the car and left it there for the entire week. Walking was much faster than looking for a parking spot.
