Cabins at the bottom usually smelled like a clogged drain, at least mine for sure (?01 I think). The toilets didn't flush unless the drain was opened or something, the runoff towards the septic tank was insufficient from those cabins, they were communicating vessels so you could spend about an hour spraying on your own excrement hoping it would flush away, the result 9/10 however was that the water just rose and everything stuck to the pot... For me and my cabin-mate okay though, we could still laugh about it and playfully warn each other to better find another toilet when needed anyway.... ????????
The food and table service was top notch, the sweet and sour sauce which was very nice/ware with many dishes was out after day one which was a shame. Of course not a must at all and it was fine AND tasty without it, only it's like on day one you can choose between cola, zero, fanta and sprite and then on day two cola drops out or something it can be compared to that. Not dramatic at all. A pure luxury problem.
Oh, the cook couldn't make poached eggs that were just hard-boiled! Haha thja once we knew we just adjusted our choice.
The dive guides Salaah and Sayed were toppers in diving and briefing, they absolutely mastered the tricks and locations. Sayed really inspired me to glide through the water gracefully and without much effort, I will be practicing that for years to come! I am very happy to have such an example though. However, Salaah could sometimes be quite surly underwater and Sayed sometimes bluntly rude during briefings "shut up!" Or "i'll kick your ass" I can deal with just fine although "attention please" would be a lot friendlier just as effectively. I myself went there with little experience, though with a lot of Cmas knowledge and self-knowledge about my own abilities, since I work full-time at sea many boat/sea related issues are not new to me. At one point I felt myself together with my even less experienced Padi aow buddy as a chiuaua being involuntarily dragged along on a (dive) walk while we very curiously want to sniff all the corals (respectfully and without harm!) and lurk at perhaps insignificant fish, then quickly felt a sniff at your collar from Salaah. Who by the way often swam quasi in the blue (+-20m away from the coral) where we didn't want to be, we wanted to get a close look at all life on and around the coral reefs! I then asked our internal management to stop classifying us with the dive leaders* and the underwater world really opened up to us, again with all due respect and with all safety precautions firmly in mind.
*Salaah is an idealist like myself and who wants the very best for people and nature so I fully understand his choices, the risk of harming inexperienced divers outweighs delivering an "unforgettable experience. Fortunately, he quickly noticed our steep growth curve from a distance and everyone was very happy about that. We understand that he has also experienced other things and that it must be heartbreaking to balance his job on the one hand and the beautiful nature and the strain on it by inexperienced divers on the other. Keeping one or two buddies in line is sometimes already not obvious, let alone a group of 13, but nobody in our group asked for that either.
About safety, I have to look at the boat and the life jackets with a frown, I may have a picture somewhere of my vest that was just painted red and I actually wouldn't trust it if it came down to it. So the inspection will definitely not be done according to european standards ????....
The zodiac insert & extract procedures went without incident although at one point an OSB did get run over and narrowly missed turning into a propeller....
The dive sites were great for a first-timer (the very last dive at the coastguard outpost in Hurgada was a lot less, nevertheless I am very happy that I could participate in all dives.
Overall I am very satisfied, but I want to give you this feedback, all positive and constructive. I look forward to another adventure together!
