Boat: the boat definitely needs a refit. There is rust and mold in the wet bar, the air conditioning (which could not be operated independently) repeatedly failed and made a lot of noise when it did turn on.
Deck crew: the deck crew and kitchen and restaurant staff do everything they can to make the divers comfortable. They succeeded well in doing so.
Guide: the Guide, Michael Wafaa, was very bad to us. Michael goes entirely for his own Instagram followers and videos, completely losing sight of the importance of his guests. Virtually every movie and photo taken by a guest features Michael and/or the selfie stick of his camera. This is absolutely unacceptable. The guests are there for their vacation and Michael is there at work. In addition, Michael completely flouts his own rules (which are general when diving with larger fish). He swims like a madman towards a shark or manta ray, making noise with his carabiner hook, while in the briefing he announces that the animals should not be chased, there should be silence and no unnecessary noise should be made. In short, everything he himself does not do.
In addition, he blamed a certain dive that did not go through on a fellow traveler. Something that was absolutely unjustified because the intended trip fit exactly into her schedule and the "dive as a gift" was a dive that did not fit into the schedule. A very unfair accusation towards the fellow traveler.
Route: Due to a strong North-South wind and accompanying swell, we spent three days on Daedelus and thus did not see the very thing that was booked by everyone, the more southern areas. This led to a very unpleasant situtation on board because this weather was already known a week before. The company could also have sailed south along the coast first and then see if it was possible to call at Daedelus.
Transfers: On the day we would fly back later in the day we would be taken to Port Galib. From there we would have to go to the airport on our own. We did not agree to this. One of our fellow travelers who had booked through Eigen Wijze Duikreizen (EWDR) immediately brought this up with EWDR. EWDR then immediately contacted JP Marine with the result that transport was arranged from Port Galib to the airport for our entire group, including those who had not booked with EWDR. Diving World, with whom we had booked, only responded that the transfers were included in the price. We were not aware of any contact with JP Marine. Personally, we feel that Diving World, despite our very good experiences in the past, missed a point.
This review was shared with the JP Marine office at an earlier stage. They would discuss e.g. with Michael Wafaa. So far this has not resulted in any compensation because the expected films and photos could not be made by him. In short, we had the worst liveaboard possible that we have made so far and absolutely do not recommend JP Marine.
