The Emperor Atoll is, in my opinion, outdated: although it was said to have been overhauled in 2014, walls between the cabin and bath area were rotten at the bottom. The air conditioner in our cabin (3) was not functioning, but this was quickly remedied by swapping it with the staff. We were also asked (correctly) to plug in the equipment to be charged in the "salon", but the plugs there fit so badly that it is not safe: loose plugs cause sparks! Furthermore, after 2 days I had to point out that a suitcase in the downstairs corridor was not put away, that this causes problems when problems (e.g. fire) occur on the boat: the escape route is then obstructed. We had to discuss it with the staff before it was removed. Furthermore: on the doni (the "Luna") one of the 3 (!) compressors was loose! Due to the rolling of the boat, it slid several times: life-threatening!
Then about the diving itself: every time you went into the water and gave the "ok" sign back to the boat, nobody paid attention anymore: that is not according to the procedures, and it is up to the guides to make sure they are followed. Also, almost every time we were diving with Nitrox, we were told that they had already checked and filled in the %-age: it was up to us to accept this and initial it: this is not according to the procedure either! What is also decent is that the first dive of the day is the deepest, and that every next dive is shallower: this procedure was not followed either.
When leaving the (rather turbulent) water, one of the divers needed extra help (she had a bit of a limp), which was given (by the guides who were very helpful by the way), but when you take her fins off first, she is helpless when she gets away from the boat with the rest of the equipment on). I had to point out to them that the flippers are the last thing to go. It's a question of understanding, and that's what I expect from the guide!
