Delfins is really great! It was already our 5th stay on Bonaire - previously we stayed 2× at Divi Flamingo and 1× at Captain Don's Habitat and now for the 2nd time at Delfins.
The Delfins is the most modern and stylish of them all. The complex is new, beautifully designed and offers a relaxed, high-quality ambience.
The Delfins is now also part of the Hilton Group, which is noticeable in some small improvements to the procedures and services.
The beach is beautiful, with lots of palm trees and plenty of shade. There are 3 pools, including a children's pool. We were there with our 2.5-year-old son and it was perfect - there were generally lots of families and children there. You can get into the sea directly from the beach, but you should definitely wear bathing shoes. Especially with a child, it was important for us not to be able to enter the water via a jetty - which is more the rule on Bonaire.
A car is a must to get to the supermarket, restaurants and dive sites.
Food & restaurants
The food at the hotel was again very good.
- The Beach Brasserie has great portions and good value for money; there is also a kids' menu.
- The Fresku is ideal for quick, good sandwiches at lunchtime after diving.
- The Kolo Restaurant has a new menu and the value for money is now almost better than in the restaurants directly on the beach. However, the barbecue night on Wednesday was a bit disappointing...
- As the hotel is now part of the Hilton group, you can no longer have the consumption on the beach charged to your room.
Negatively noticed
Unfortunately, we noticed a lot of cigarette butts on the beach - significantly more than before. This somewhat spoiled the otherwise beautiful beach image.
Dive Friends - diving center
The Dive Friends diving center is right next to the hotel, but is still a little outside the main complex. There is a store on the beach, but for check-in, equipment rental etc. you have to go to the actual center (approx. 5 minutes on foot).
Compared to other resorts, this is the only disadvantage:
- The base is not directly on the sea.
- Boat dives do not start from the hotel, but from Port Bonaire (10 minutes by car).
- There is good support for shore dives, and guided shore dives are also offered.
- There is a house reef, but the equipment has to be transported from the back area to the sea (on foot, on a cart or briefly by car).
The Delfins is therefore not a classic diving hotel, but also appeals to many non-divers and families. If you are on Bonaire solely for diving, you might be better off with a diving center located directly by the sea. For shore dives, however, it doesn't matter.
Room - One Bedroom Deluxe Apartment
Once again, we had a one-bedroom deluxe apartment, which was perfect for us - especially with a child."Deluxe" means close to the sea, which we really appreciated in this large resort. Fortunately, we were on the first floor - important to know: There is no elevator to the 1st floor, so be sure to mention this when booking if you are traveling with a stroller.
The room was clean and well equipped.New:
- There is now air conditioning in the living area too, which is a great advantage.
- The shower now has a door, which solves the previous flooding problem.
Conclusion
We would stay at Delfins again in a heartbeat - for us it is the perfect hotel on Bonaire. Modern facilities, family-friendly, great beach, good food and a very coherent concept overall.
