Our dive guide Hengky is very experienced and competent and exudes a great sense of calm.
Unfortunately, we didn't know which sites we would be visiting before the dive boat set off, which I found strange, especially as a photographer. After all, you want to have a choice and dive according to your interests.
Some of the sites we visited were not very spectacular by Raja Ampat standards, although the local divesites also had some very beautiful sites.
But I was also lucky enough to have the guide Hengky and the boat to myself and to be able to choose my favorite dive sites myself. So I was able to dive the P47 in a strong current with Hengky as my photo model.
The surface interval in the small village of Arefi with its friendly inhabitants or on the island of Wai were highlights for me.
In my opinion, too little attention was paid to the protection of the coral reefs! Neither at the briefing nor anywhere in the bungalow was there an urgent warning to touch anything. Unfortunately, I saw other divers deliberately holding on to corals in order to take a video with their action cam or destroying entire coral branches with their fins. That shouldn't be the case.
The base manager himself is always on site and approachable, and other senior staff are also available for guests and sometimes available for an interesting chat.
Although the camera room is rather small, it offers everything a photographer could wish for. (Own workstation with sockets, light, Kleenex, AirCon, clean, ...)
I thought that was great.
