Arrive and enjoy!
Our small group of 5 people spent two weeks in the idyllically situated diving resort Buceo Anilao. After a smooth transfer in an air-conditioned minibus we were welcomed with cooling refreshment and a warm welcome. The resort makes a very well-kept impression, the spacious rooms with fantastic sea view are cleaned daily on request and the whole team is incredibly friendly, polite and attentive. We were really spoiled and felt well looked after all around. The food was rich and very good - there was something for every taste. The evenings can be comfortably concluded at the centrally located bar. Bartender JayJay offers an extensive cocktail and drink menu and also likes to mix delicious own creations.
The diving center is modernly equipped, top organized and has its own generously equipped camera room. Varied dive sites with short trips of max. 30 minutes and an unbelievably diverse underwater world awaited us. Intact coral reefs with colourful reef fish populations rich in individuals, great underwater landscapes, spacy night dives (an absolute must), and of course the unbelievable variety of colours and shapes of the nudibranches are hard to beat. The possibility to choose between top muck dives or reefs not affected by coral extinction I find ideal.
In good weather the base also offers blackwater diving for experienced divers. We enjoyed a near shore variant and were fascinated by what was happening. Beside the, as already mentioned variety of nudibranchs, various octopus and frogfish, there are also other small treasures that are offered. Good eyes, a magnifying glass or a macro lens are an advantage if hairy shrimps with eggs or bearded goby want to be viewed.
The dive boats are manoeuvrable and ideal for small groups. We were maximum 3 divers per guide! The reefs are in 1A condition and our guides are highly motivated. The well-considered choice of the dive spots always offered something new - thanks Elmar and John Lloyd - they did a great job and gave us fantastic motives - no wishes remained open!
On our dive-free day we made a perfectly organized excursion to the Taal volcano - at that time highly recommended, but at the moment probably not possible anymore, because the volcano gave a remarkable sign of life and unfortunately covered the whole landscape with a thick ash cover.
A volcano within a volcano and a lake within a lake! The volcanic island in the Taal Lake could be climbed on horseback or on foot just one year ago. Lush vegetation, lava rocks and fumaroles accompanied the ascent, which was rewarded with a fantastic view of the caldera. Today the area resembles a lunar landscape and it will probably take years until nature has recovered.
It is definitely worthwhile to make a small side trip to Taal with the largest church building in the Philippines, the Basilica St. Martin of Tours.
The entire crew deserves special praise for creating a great family atmosphere - their concerned sympathy for the recovery of our patient, the immediate elimination of the danger of slipping when boarding the boat as well as prompt and uncomplicated assistance with minor equipment problems.
Many thanks to the great team!
